Who should you vote for?

2 Apr

Now that we are hopefully on an even playing field as far as financing a campaign goes, how do we choose a candidate or representative?

Hopefully we are not voting for someone that has ever been here before.  The reason I say this is because if they have been in any politics before they are always subservient to the leadership.  There should always be respect for experience, but it should not be the controlling factor.

It is the same when you go into a new job and because you are new to the work, you understand the system, but you can see obvious improvement possibilities.  The old heads tell you to get used to the present system then we will see about change later.  Change never happens.

Change has to happen or no growth occurs.  This is true in any industry and it is also true in government.  Keeping all the old traditions alive just because they are there is no reason to continue those traditions.  Traditions are very important to any organization.  A company cannot run well without a good set of policies and procedures.

However, some policies and procedures are kept but no one remembers why.

There once was a daughter that was going to cook a leg of lamb.  Her mother with her at the time and told her to cut off the bottom of the leg before she cooked it.  The daughter did so, but asked why do we do that? Her mother said, “I don’t know, but we always did.

The daughter’s grandmother was still living and so they both went to ask the grandmother why she cut off the leg.  The grandmother said she did because her mother did.  The daughter’s great grandmother was still living, so they called on the great grandmother and asked her the same question.  The great grandmother said, “I don’t now but when you were young the leg of lamb wouldn’t fit into the small oven we had, so I had to cut if off.”

Unfortunately we live by repeating the same things over and over without knowing why.  In order to change we must constantly reevaluate our position.  Our government leaders work without change and the  bureaucrats working inside the different agencies work the same way.  Why would they not?  The bureaucrats sometimes forget that they work for #wethepeople and not for the agency only.

The bureaucrats actually train the appointed department heads.   If congress will not change, why should they?

We have to vote for people that will bring our government (all of it) accountable to the electorate.  This will never happen as long as the present politicians are running the congress.  We must put people in charge that will actually take the responsibility for the job for which they have been hired.  Then they have a chance, with no K Street blackmail, to fix the bureaucrat problem.

If all the changes up to this point could be fixed, we would see negotiations that are productive throughout all the different levels of government.  In other words they would be simply working for the people.

Once a person is elected, what guide lines should they follow?

I might have mentioned this before but in case you forgot Vote.
